At Plek it is possible to create channels. Sometimes as an organization, you create the content of the channels manually. Other times an RSS feed adds the content of the channel. The channel will automatically be filled with information about this RSS feed.
Creating a channel with an RSS feed
To create a channel with an RSS feed, take the following steps:
- First, go to the Admin section in your Plek: hover over your own name at the menu and click on Admin.
Now you arrive at the Admin panel. In the left sidebar, there are different components, including Channels.
- Click on Channels.
Now you arrive in an overview of the existing channels in your Plek.
- Click on New Channel.
A page where you can add information about the new channel appears.
- Give your channel a name and decide who can upload messages in this channel.
- Tick the box of RSS_CHANNEL.
You now need to add a source for the RSS feed. This is an URL, which you copy from the website where the RSS feed is located. In this example, we use the RSS feed of the current news of the Dutch Government (Rijksoverheid). Often, in websites offering an RSS feed, like the Dutch Government, a link is placed at the right or at the end of the page. You can open this link, but to place it in a channel at Plek you need to copy it. This is possible, for example, from your URL bar. See the image below.
- In the RSS source for channel place the copied URL of the RSS feed.
- Then, select the RSS channel owner.
- When finished, press Create.
The channel with the RSS feed is created. If new messages in the feed are being uploaded, this will be uploaded automatically to the channel at Plek.
Below is a short video where we go through the steps.
TIP!
As Admin it is possible to change to order of your channels. If the order of the channels is not fixed, then a user can decide where to put the channels on his home page.
