Difference between channels and groups

A common question: when do I use a channel and when do I use in a group and what is the difference. To answer this question, it is important to put the differences side by side:

Channel Group
Is part of the general section of Plek Is part of the personalized section of Plek
Is primarily a platform wide message stream Is a self-contained section (community) within the platform
Visible to all users on the platform Visible only to group members, or - if it is an open group - to interested non-members
Contains relevant messages and information for all users Contains specific messages and information for group members, or - if it is an open group - for interested non-members

Example 1:

There is an important message from management that needs to be shared with the entire organization.

This is a message that is relevant to all users, for this you use a channel.

Example 2:

You want to collaborate with a group of colleagues on a project, you want to share documents and be able to send each other messages.

This is a topic relevant to a specific group of users, for this you use a group.
